The Best of Sóller + Port de Sóller 2024

Sóller

Sóller is a very pretty town to spend some time in, and one of the highlights is taking the Antique Train to arrive to and/or from here. More details on taking the train to Sóller and the tram onwards to Port de Sóller can be found within the Guide.

Walk up to the Plaça de la Constitució to start, and wander from there, everything is fairly close. The Saturday market is a nice time to visit. And, if you are there during the first couple weeks of June, you will catch the Fira de la Taronja, the orange harvest, when restaurants offer special menus that incorporate citrus as their star ingredient.

Renovated in the summer of 2024, Sóller Tennis Club describes itself as ‘a wellness and lifestyle community for local neighbours, international friends and touring pros’. With mountain views surrounding its four Tennis courts, four Padel courts, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a relaxed restaurant serving fresh seasonal products sourced from the island - this is a great spot for a quick workout, or just to chill for a little while. You can book the courts, but I am unsure if you can access only the pool (without a court booking) if that’s what you are after (best to check beforehand).

A stone façade building, with a quintessentially charming interior - think wooden beams, classic tiles and ornate features. Opened in 2022, and offering a progressive and globally inspired Mediterranean menu,

La Romaguera is where you go for the tapas; try the patatas bravas, cannelloni, octopus, and lemon pie. There are also a few outdoor tables here.

Mister McCoy's Island Ices is a traditional gelateria, in the way that they make their gelatos, sorbets and granitas in a traditional way. The modern twist is their ever changing menu, flavours change weekly, depending on what ingredients are freshest on the island. Every visit here begs for you to try their latest flavour combination, and it always hits the spot.

They also serve natural wines and cocktails.

Port de Sóller

One of the best places on the island to catch a sunset, Port de Sóller also has some amazing beach front restaurants (but check to see if they are open, if you plan to travel there in the fall). It does have a bit of a touristy feel, but it’s a laidback one, and locals spend time on the beach here as well.

A small boat port lies at the north point, and beaches with beach chair rentals and outdoor showers (which is a bonus) begin in the centre along to the south. It is fairly small, and easy to walk along the cove, from boat harbour end to beach end easily. The main road will lead you into the center of Sóller, so you will need to choose your direction once you arrive.

If you are planning to spend time at the Port de Sóller beach, you might want to secure some beach chairs and an umbrella first, and leave your towels there before walking around, or even before heading out for a bite. The beach chair vendor will issue you a ticket, and the seats are yours until you choose to leave. Most people are pretty respectful of this, especially if there are towels left on the loungers. Although, it does sometimes irk people that you can hold these and wander off from them. I prefer sitting at the beach on the far left, as opposed to closer to the center, but it’s up to you, and where you might find free beach loungers (not all of the beach areas here have loungers / umbrellas).

🌞🌛🇪🇸🌱🍴🍹🍷🌅

Blai bar is new to Port de Sóller as of 2023, and what a wonderful addition it is. Offering a healthy, casual, market-fresh and veg-forward menu, this is a place you leave feeling light and happy.

The vibe feels high here, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The best way to eat at Blai is to share a bit of everything - make sure to try their bread and burrata, whatever salad is on their fresh sheet, and dessert is not to be missed. In addition to a really nice wine list, they also have an inventive cocktail menu. Plus, they have a large seaside patio, from which you can watch the tram go by (there’s also a small, nicely designed interior space).

Patiki Beach

Market fresh Mediterranean

*casual beach front, farm to table vibes

WebsiteInstagramGoogle MapsBook Reservation

Port de Sóller

Lunch & Dinner; open every day

🌞🌛🇪🇸🌱🦐🍴🍹🍷

Patiki Beach is the most beachfront you can get in Port de Sóller, and is essentially at the end of the cove, with a view looking up at the mountains, in behind the beach. It has a more casual beach deck feel, with rattan furniture and lighting, and sun umbrellas. Started by acclaimed local chef Grace Berrow, expect a progressive Mediterranean farm to table menu.

The portions can be rather big depending on what you order, so ask your server, as some dishes are better shared with larger groups (like their surprisingly massive green salad). Their bread is incredible, opt for whatever veg is in season, and Sóller prawns another must - but it’s hard to go wrong here. Their wine sheet is worth a peek as well.

Port de Sóller; Located at Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel

Dinner only; 6:30pm - midnight, kitchen until 10:30pm; open every day

🌛🇪🇸🇮🇱🇷🇴🍴🍹🍷🌅

If you want a stellar view of the Port de Sóller, head up to NENI Mallorca, from where you can see the whole cove. You will need to taxi up here, if you didn’t drive, as it is a half hour walk uphill from the center of the cove.

The patio is a wonder, not only for their views (sunset up here is amazing) but the comfortable and bohemian decor; request to sit outside when you make your reservation.

One of ten European locations of the Vienna based NENI restaurant group: the menu comes from the family’s Israeli, Romanian and Spanish roots. The menu encourages you to share a bunch of small plates, or order the Balagan menu to try a bit of everything.

For a more relaxed fine dining experience, one that feels elegant, yet slightly more rustic, I would recommend Sa Figuera.

They offer a Mediterranean style menu with a Majorca touch, using local produce and seasonal vegetables from their organic garden.

Hotel Corazón

Hotel + Restaurant

*my ultimate dream hotel

WebsiteInstagramGoogle MapsBook a Table at the Restaurant

between Sóller and Deià / Valldemossa

Restaurant open to everyone: Breakfast 8:30am - 11am; Lunch 12:30pm - 4pm; Dinner 6:30pm - 10pm; open every day until November 2, 2024

🌞🌛🍴🇪🇸🧑‍🌾🌸☕️🍹🍷✨✨✨

Hotel Corazón is the hotel I would stay at, if traveling to Mallorca. A renovated historic finca, their 15 rooms are sublime in their soft luxury: a pastel palette with pops of colour or texture through perfectly curated art and tapestry, rounded edges, draped textiles; each room is an ode to Mallorca’s natural materials and artisans. The property is a blend of wild splendor, which feels synonymous with the spirit of Mallorca. There are also no TVs here; take in the view instead, or go for a dip in the pool.

Nestled between Sóller and Deià / Valldemossa, it’s a bit more out of the way, but that’s exactly what you need for a relaxing vacation. Especially if it is your second or third time visiting the island, and you are looking for a stay at the hotel and rejuvenate type of holiday. This is a destination I would recommend having a rental car for, as this will be the only way to easily access the rest of the island from here.

Lucky for everyone, their restaurant is open to the public. Dining is al fresco, with views of the mountains. The menu is inspired by the hotel garden, which uses regenerative farm techniques to grow their own vegetables, flowers, and herbs. This is a special destination worthy of a visit.

They also offer workshops and yoga classes, and host pop-up shops and outdoor cinema evenings in collaboration with Cinema Paradiso.
